"When I moved to Whitney my senior year, my first instinct was to not play sports because no coach would want to spend the time teaching a new athlete their plays or procedures when they will be gone after one year. However, the first day of tennis practice, the coaches showed me that not only was I going to be able to play on their team, but they were going to invest their time in making sure I would achieve my goals for the tennis season.

"Dozens of athletes shared two courts, but the coaches evenly gave their attention to every player. On cold, rainy days when practice for every other sport was cancelled, the tennis players were in the gym working on fundamentals. I am grateful for the patience, hours, and flexibility the coaches put into making sure we were prepared for district and regionals, for it has taught me to invest my time wisely in whatever has potential even if it won't last forever."

About Us

Tennis LessonsWhat started 9 years ago as casual exercise, turned into volunteer work that has bloomed into a passion for developing a tennis program in Whitney, Texas. We have come a long way from our first practice, where we had six students, now we have over 20.  We added summer camps with enrollment of over forty in 2013 and 2014, ages nine through seventeen. Since this is a low income community a racket donation program was initiated to allow young children to get started.  Tennis in Whitney has become contagious because word is “getting out” about the student’s successes and how much fun we are having! The memories and blessings far exceed the time and efforts spent as a volunteer!

Some of the accomplishments of our past players:

  • 2011 girls doubles team won 2nd in State
  • 4 players competed at State Tennis Tournament in last three years
  • 20 players represented Whitney at Regional Tennis Tournaments in last five years
  • At least 23 Academic and Athletic scholarships since 2010

Our program is making a difference in kids’ lives here in Whitney.  Our players are not just athletes but great students who have the desire to improve their tennis abilities while learning life skills that will ultimately help in our community and society.  Life lessons learned on the courts will stick with them as they go forward long after high school is completed.

Whitney Tennis Courts We have embarked upon an ambitious program to build 8 new tennis courts with a budget of $800,000.  These new courts will facilitate tennis practice, dual matches, and the hosting of tennis tournaments and ultimately improve the quality of tennis in Whitney. The high school and the school district have provided land for these courts, near the high school. Currently, there are two dilapidated courts which are not even located near the high school and these are not adequate for working with over 20 high school players; our program has out-grown our facilities.

Tennis Doubles We want to thank you for reading about our passion and also thank you for considering contributing to this very worthy cause. Your prayers and contributions will make a lasting difference for our tennis players and program; please join us in making an investment in these students’ lives!

All donations are tax deductible when made through our new corporation, All Children Excelling (ACE), a Texas Non-Profit Corporation with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.  We have a Board of Directors; Tom Moore and Tom Reedy are Directors and Jim serves as the Chairman.

Thanks again,

Jim and Ann Duncan
